Healthcare and diagnostics
Rotating clinical rosters produce complicated hours and simple consequences: if the record is wrong, someone is paid wrong.
Complex rosters, unforgiving payroll
Clinical and diagnostic operations run rotations that office schedules never encounter: nights, weekends, on-call, shifts that cross midnight, and staff who move between locations. Each of those interacts with break entitlements, weekly-off rules and overtime thresholds.
Many healthcare employers reached for biometric attendance to solve accuracy, and inherited a different problem — a database of fingerprints or face templates that is sensitive personal data under the DPDP Act, demanding consent, minimisation and deletion discipline that most deployments never planned for.
How rostered work is captured
- 01
Rotations are configured per workspace
Shift patterns including overnight rotations, break rules and weekly offs are applied consistently rather than interpreted per cycle.
- 02
Sign-in is email or OTP — no biometrics
Accuracy comes from a personal login plus manager review, which avoids creating a sensitive-data liability to secure and eventually delete.
- 03
A manager approves it
The closed session lands in a review queue with its full context — who, which project, how long, which day. Approving takes a click, and the decision is recorded against the session permanently.
- 04
Hours flow to payroll intact
Approved sessions with the roster rules applied become the payroll input, so night and weekend hours are not recomputed by hand.
What changes
- Accurate payroll hours across rotating and overnight shifts.
- No biometric capture, and therefore no biometric database to protect or justify.
- Break and weekly-off rules applied by policy rather than by whoever is doing the roster this month.
- One record covering clinical and back-office staff alike.
Where we would not oversell it
Workclave does not build clinical rosters, manage skill-mix or safe-staffing ratios, and it holds no patient data of any kind. It records attendance against the roster you run elsewhere. Where a site genuinely requires physical access control, that remains a separate system.
Healthcare & diagnostics — common questions
Is biometric attendance mandatory in India?
No. No labour law requires it for private employers — the obligation is an accurate register, and the method is the employer's choice. Choosing biometrics adds obligations rather than removing them.
How do shifts crossing midnight get counted?
As a single session with its real start and end. A 22:00 to 06:00 shift is eight hours before breaks, and the hours land on the right day according to your configured rules.
Can different locations have different rules?
Yes. Shifts, breaks, holidays and retention are configured per workspace, which is what multi-site and multi-state operations need.
