Payroll & attendance (India)
Attendance percentage calculator
The month-end number payroll asks for, computed the way Indian HR teams actually count it — half days weighted, paid leave counted as present.
- Attendance percentage
- 93.2%
- Days counted present
- 20.5 days
- Unaccounted absent days
- 1.5 days
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent or stored. Indicative arithmetic, not legal, payroll or tax advice.
The formula
- Days counted present = full days + (half days × 0.5) + approved paid leave
- Attendance % = days counted present ÷ working days × 100
Agree the counting rules before the percentage
Most attendance disputes are definition disputes. Does approved paid leave count as present? (Usually yes — leave is an entitlement, not an absence.) Does a half day mean anything under 4 hours, or a formally applied half-day leave? Do weekly offs sit outside the denominator? Write the answers into the attendance policy once, and the month-end percentage stops being an argument.
This calculator uses the most common Indian convention: paid leave counts as present, half days weigh 0.5, and the denominator is scheduled working days — weekends and holidays excluded.
What the unaccounted days become
The remainder after present days, half days and approved leave is where payroll consequences live: loss of pay, or a regularisation the employee needs to file before the cycle locks. Catching those days mid-month — when the person can still explain a missed punch — is cheaper for everyone than a wrong deduction discovered on pay day.
Stop calculating this by hand
Workclave derives the percentage from real session records with your policy applied automatically — half-day rules, paid leave, regularisations — so payroll gets a locked number, not a spreadsheet.
Attendance percentage calculator — common questions
Do weekly offs and public holidays count in working days?
No. The denominator is days the person was scheduled to work. A 30-day month with 8 weekend days and 2 holidays has 20 working days. Counting holidays in the denominator silently deflates everyone's percentage.
Should paid leave really count as present?
For the attendance percentage, most Indian policies count approved paid leave as present — the alternative punishes people for using an entitlement. Loss-of-pay days, unapproved absence and no-shows are what reduce the percentage.
What attendance percentage triggers action?
That is policy, not law — but attendance below 85–90% with unaccounted absences usually warrants a conversation, and repeated unapproved absence has its own disciplinary track. The percentage is a signal; the day-level record is what any action must stand on.
