Women on night shifts
s.25 bars work before 7am and after 9pm. A notification of 27 June 2025 permits 9pm–7am subject to written consent, at least five women per night shift, continuous CCTV, women security guards where more than 10 women work at night, a third of on-duty supervisors being women, a 12-hour gap between shifts, POSH compliance and amenitiesknowledge.dlapiper.comSecondary source
IT/ITES exemption
No broad exemption. Notification 229 of 20 May 2013 lifts only the women's 9pm–7am restriction for information technology establishments; working hours, spread-over, opening hours and weekly off are not relaxed for the sectorindianemployees.comSecondary source

Notes on Madhya Pradesh

  • Rest interval is deliberately left unverified. The Act has no general rest-interval provision for adults — the only interval in the statute (s.25A(2)) applies to young persons. Some aggregators state “30 minutes after 5 hours” for MP; that is unsupported by the Act text and appears carried over from another state.
  • Note the shop versus commercial establishment split in daily hours — 9 against 10 — which most summaries flatten into a single figure.

Verify before you rely on it. State rules are amended by notification, exemptions for IT/ITES establishments are often time-bound and renewed separately, and the Labour Codes continue to be brought into force state by state. This page records what we could verify against a named source at the time of writing — it is general information, not legal advice, and it does not replace reading your state's current rules or asking your compliance advisor.

Keeping to these limits in practice

Limits are only enforceable against a record. Workclave captures every work session with its start, stop and breaks, applies your workspace's shift and break rules, and produces the statutory attendance register from the same data — so daily, weekly and overtime totals are computed as work happens rather than reconstructed at month end. Multi-state employers can configure rules per workspace.
